Trollology combines troll with the Greek -logia (“study” or “knowledge”). The word troll, rooted in Old Norse, originally described something uncanny or encountered in a changed state of awareness, rather than a fixed creature. In this sense, Trollology refers to a way of seeing and sensing the world—an attentive, enchanted state connected to living ecosystems.

In this context Trollology is an artistic research project and travelling festival stand exploring eco-mythology, animism, herbalism and the hidden folk as expressions of living ecosystems.

Rather than focusing on the giants of old folklore, Trollology looks at smaller, quieter beings—trolls as plant spirits, guides, caretakers, and indicators of ecological balance. The project brings together visual art, biology, folklore, speculative science, and storytelling, presented through drawings, objects, texts, and curiosity-cabinet displays.

At festivals, Cabinet of Trollology appears as an intimate stand where visitors encounter original artworks, printed matter, herbs, bizzarly formed driftwood, skulls, scientific specimens of various creatures, magic amulets, wands, hundred year old cauldrons and teapots – a supplier of magic, curiosities and antique forest laboratory equipment.
